Company History


At the beginning of the millennium a group of promoters pal up with each other in one of the Moscow airports. Then these guys went through all stages of the advertising school – from working on promotions to complex project management in various companies. After graduating from the universities and gaining the experience in real-world they met the challenge to run a new type of BTL agency.

The company was registered on 24th of April 2014 under the name Smart Project.

Promotion activities organization was the first product of the original business. As the quality of the promo decorations manufacturing was regarded highly, a client base was soon set up and began to grow, the quantity of the production services expanded.

Understanding that promo staff is the heart and soul of BTL business there was established a special promo school. After hiring successful candidates are provided with trainings which include topics related to client relationship management, understanding customers’ needs, enhancing communication with clients, rules of conduct in the airport area and communication ethics.

These first well developed services laid the foundation for running the business.

1st April 2015 Smart Project became the first marketing agency that has a membership of the nonprofit and non-governmental partnership EADF, Eurasian Association of Duty Free, which brings together the Duty Free shops owners and suppliers. The Association is an organization established by leading operators of the market on the territory of the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan and Belarus and represents the majority of Duty Free volume with members from DUFRY, Heinemann, RegStaer, KAPO Duty Free, Port Alliance, Aero-Trade, Arial, Ladoga, DERA-Vladivostok, JTI, Travel Retail Domodedovo, Travel Retail Saint-Petersburg who are active in all Duty Free channels, airports, borders, ports, railroads, in-flight.

Launch of the trainings have breathed a new life into the relations between Duty Free suppliers and operators. Having a speaker’s role Duty Free goods suppliers get operators’ salespeople comfortable with their products, teach them practical communication skills and maintain ethical standards.

At the beginning of summer first training was organized in Moscow, a bit later the second one in Saint-Petersburg.
Considering the positive experience CIS partners (Kazakhstan, Belarus, Georgia, Armenia) were also involved in regular trainings.

The success of the new service inspired Smart Project team to create and implement initiatives along with basic services. What could be better than the exchange of international experience?

Thus 18th October 2015 Smart Project became a member of an international network of staff specialists and promotion agencies, APA. In each country the Association has just one member selected on a competitive basis. Within a year Smart Project was chosen from a number of applicants. Being the APA official partner in Russia & CIS, Smart Project together with other corporate members began to take an active part in inventing new approaches that directs clients to the best in Travel Retail industry.

All the efforts were not in vain. Applying of the new practices made the advertising more effective. The use of far-out tools makes an ad unforgettable! For instance, Social Media Marketing can promote BTL activities and video reports provide audience comprehensive and easy to perceive information.

Smart Project continues to be at the cutting edge and will remain so in future. Active service development, affordable prices and client-centric focus remain key factors, as Smart Project concentrates on providing solutions that enable to boost clients’ brands reputation.
